Thanks to my training at Henry Schein, I am able to assist my customers with building and maintaining a customized Periodontal Management Program. We work together to create an office protocol for treatment, based on gathering the appropriate clinical data and submitting that documentation to insurance companies to demonstrate the diagnosis. This is the first step in ensuring proper reimbursement. Then we discuss how to obtain patient acceptance of the necessary recommended care, which is crucial to increasing the patient’s level of periodontal health.

During my years as a dental hygienist, periodontal disease became one of my biggest concerns. I saw first-hand the deterioration of patients’ oral health when they would not accept perio treatment either because they did not understand the need or were worried about the expense. Given what we now know about the relationship between periodontal disease and other systemic diseases, it is more crucial than ever for offices to have a protocol. To improve the health of my patients, I researched how to motivate patients and learned how to code correctly for the procedures being performed and improve reimbursement for those codes.
