The FREND™ System does not use liquid calibration material. The calibration information is encoded in a code chip supplied in each box of cartridges. FREND will store 3 different code chip values for each test assay. Reading and storing the code chip information takes only 5 seconds. There is no cost for the code chip and there is a large dollar saving because test cartridges and control materials are not used.
The FREND™ cartridges are stable until the expiration date printed on the cartridge box. The FREND system will automatically reject an expired cartridge based on the barcode on the cartridge. Cartridges may remain at room temperature for the business hours and then returned to the refrigerator. These may be used again. Please DO NOT REPEAT THE REFRIGERATE-ROOM TEMPERATURE CYCLE AGAIN.
The FREND™ System provides a quantitative analysis for Vitamin D, Testosterone, PSA, TSH, and Free T4.
If you comply with IQCP 2016, controls for each assay only need to be run on the FREND™ once every 30 days, every new shipment of cartridges, or every new lot number of cartridges. Should you comply with IQCP 2016, you then run a ‘Daily QC cartridge’ every day. This takes only 1 minutes and 20 seconds. The cartridge may be used through the expiration date of approximately 3 years. They are provided at no cost. If you choose not to comply with IQCP 2016, controls must be run every day a patient sample is performed.
